Microbreweries are popping up all over town and many of them have a great atmosphere to go along with the specialty beers they offer. Here are some near The Woodlands that are worth a visit.
Southern Star Brewing Company is nestled off I-45 North just east of The Outlets at Conroe. Situated on 13 acres, the brewing company land houses the brewhouse, a large taproom, an outdoor beer garden and newly installed permanent music stage. Designed to be a family-friendly place to spend a weekend afternoon, Southern Star has become a fixture in the Conroe brewing community. What began ten years ago as a dream for owner David Fougeron and his father, the company has grown dramatically. After winning awards for his first brown ale brew, David developed the Bombshell Blonde Ale which put them on the map. You can visit the taproom Thursday through Sunday year-round and they offer tours of the brewery on Saturday afternoons. Here’s a little piece of trivia for you – Southern Star was the first Texas craft brewery to put their beer into cans!
Across the way in Magnolia, you’ll find Lone Pint Brewery, makers of the popular IPA Yellow Rose. For the past almost six years, Lone Pint has been proudly brewing Texas beers with American equipment, maintaining the concept that craft beers are uniquely American. With a wide selection of core and seasonal brews, the taps at Lone Pint are flowing every Saturday from noon to 4pm. Kids and dogs welcome!
B-52 Brewing is another Conroe brewery who truly lives up to its tagline “too good to ignore.” With upwards of 19 different beers on tap, you’ll be sure to find something that satisfies your taste buds. Their Saturday tastings from noon to 5pm have two options, one of which comes with a souvenir mug. The taproom is open Thursdays through Sundays so bring your friends for a game of horseshoes and ping-pong and spend the evening sampling some great beer.
