Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who have served in the United States Military. Declared a national holiday in 1966 by President Lyndon Johnson, Americans have come together on this last Monday in May to celebrate and enjoy our freedom as we say Thank You to our brave servicemembers.
One great way to show your appreciation is to attend the Memorial Day Celebration at Town Green Park in The Woodlands on Sunday, May 26 where, in addition to a community celebration, you’ll be able to witness new service men and women being sworn in. Local high school seniors who have enlisted in our armed services will greatly appreciate your support as they begin this next chapter in their young lives. But that’s not all! Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the summer evening sounds of live music, children playing, and of course, fireworks show. Events begin at 5pm and fireworks will be just before 9pm.
Nothing is quite as American as a baseball game in summertime. The Houston Astros are home for a ten game stretch beginning this week and lasting all the way until May 29. Enjoy your holiday weekend at the ballpark with tickets starting as low as $15. Afternoon matinee games are on Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27 beginning at 1pm. All other games have an evening first pitch time.
Try something new this holiday weekend and attend a Polo Match. The USPA Officer’s Cup trophy will be awarded to the winning team on Sunday, May 26 at the Houston Polo Club. The match begins at 5pm and discounted tickets are available for children. Live music, concessions from Ruth’s Chris, and a champagne divot stomp are also on the agenda.
Even if you just stay home or go to the community pool, you can make this a Memorial Day to remember by treasuring our nation’s freedom and enjoying time with your loved ones.
