Back to School Shopping

back to school shopping

It’s that exciting time of year for kids and parents alike – well, let’s be honest, mostly for parents! Back to school time is here! Your child’s school has a list of required supplies customized for his/her grade level, so start there before you hit the shops. Some retailers close to the school may have lists available in store.

With the sweltering heat outside you probably want to minimize the number of stores on your list, so start with Walmart or Target to get almost everything. These huge retailers have large sections dedicated to school supplies, backpacks and lunchboxes. They also have technology sections where you can pick up a new tablet or laptop, headphones and specialty calculators. Need some new clothes as well? They’re just another aisle over, next to the shoes that are probably also on your list.

Take an inventory of your child’s wardrobe and make a list of his/her needs. Stick to the basics and go for warm-weather styles – it will be hot here for at least another two to three months. Save the long sleeves and sweaters for holiday shopping season.

In The Woodlands Mall, Hanna Andersson children’s clothing store has a BOGO 50% off sale through August 11. At Portofino Shopping Center in Shenandoah, Famous Footwear has BOGO 50% off through August 13 and half off all sandals. Pottery Barn Kids online has backpacks and lunchboxes on sale with customization and free shipping that will arrive before school starts on August 16 (check select styles).

Tax Free Weekend is August 11-13 this year, so get out and grab some deals and save that extra eight percent! Individual items priced at $100 or less qualify for this special deal. Clothing, shoes and backpacks are among those tax-exempt items as well as certain sports gear and school supplies. Economists estimate that Texans will save about $92 million in taxes!

Enjoy your last couple weeks of summer and have fun getting ready for school to begin!
