Ways to meet your neighbors

friends and neighbors

So, you’ve just moved into a new home – how exciting! Now that you’re getting settled in and discovering the area, here are some great ways to meet your neighbors. These can be especially helpful if you are relocating to an unfamiliar area, or are just looking to make new friends.
Volunteer – Getting involved with a group or organization you feel passionate about is a fantastic way to meet like-minded individuals. You’ll not only get to do something productive for the community, but it can be productive for your social life as well.
Go to happy hour – Chances are, you’ve relocated for work purposes. If this is the case, see if there’s a regular happy hour you can join, or go out on a limb and suggest grabbing drinks with a few of your coworkers. You’ll get to know them better which could improve your working relationships and they might be inclined to invite others outside of the office.
Join a church – Religious organizations are very welcoming groups and are almost always looking for new members. They offer lots of additional activities besides traditional worship services, like small groups, community outreach, family fun nights, etc.
Go to the park – Take your kids or dog for a walk around the neighborhood and stop at the local playground or park. This may seem cliché, but it works! Other parents and pet owners will be out and about and are most likely looking for some adult conversation just like you. And your children (or pets) can be the perfect conversation starter topic.
Block Party – OK, so this one may seem a little daunting at first, but even if you’re not a party planner at heart, it can be pretty easy to pull off. Go big by handing out flyers door-to-door and grilling burgers for 20… Or just pick a Saturday afternoon and invite a few neighbors to bring their own picnic and wine, then just set up some chairs on your front lawn. This could quickly become a tradition on your street!
One last universal tip – smile and be friendly! 
